I awakened early and I ran to the window to look at the sky like I always do. I saw what I always hope for — clouds with the promise of a beautiful sunrise. It was still dark. I didn't know what the morning would bring, but I grabbed my cameras and tripod, jumped in the car and went to my favorite place where I shoot the sunrise.
This time, however, I chose a different view with high bushes almost hiding the mountains where the sun was about to make its appearance. I liked the silhouette of the branches against the sky. So I set up my Nikon D810 on a tripod and handheld my Sony A6000 for different views and more mobility. In the end, I chose this shot where I actually knelt down on the ground to shoot up through the branches to catch the sun lighting up the clouds and sky.
What if I hadn't gone out to the desert to capture this image and see God paint the sky?
I would have missed it.
There's a lesson in this for any who want to hear God speak.
I think about Moses who was pasturing the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, on the top of Mt. Horeb (also known as Mt. Sinai). A bush began to burn on fire without being consumed. So Moses turned aside to look. And we learn from God's Word that —
When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses, Moses!
Exodus 3:4
You see, God spoke to Moses when Moses turned aside to look.
God has spoken in His Word dear friends. It is as though the bush is always burning for us, just like Moses. We learn from God that His Word is, indeed, like fire (Jeremiah 23:29). The question is, will we turn aside to look?
If you want to hear from God, then grab your Bible, sit alone with Him, read His Word, and you will hear Him speak. He has given His Word to you with great purpose. He says this about His Word — "It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).
So, dear friend, grab your Bible today, turn aside to look, and hear God. Your life will never be the same.
Lord, today we thank for Your Word. Remind us Lord, to open our Bibles every day to hear You speak to us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
