Works requiring permission include web pages, trade books, gift books, quiet time studies, magazines, audio and video multimedia, and electronic publications. Permissions to quote are considered on a per case basis depending on the nature of the quoted material, the target format, and copyright ownership.

Guidelines For Noncommercial Use

The "Fair Use" clause of U.S. copyright law allows brief excerpts of copyrighted material to be reproduced without written permission from the publisher, provided standard credit is given. No formal permission is required for use of a small number of quotes (500 words or less).

• Quoting material in a sermon or lecture
• Using an excerpt for church–related activities (small group study, newsletters, bulletins, programs, etc.)
• Photocopies for noncommercial use
• Educational writings
• Quoting on a noncommercial website, blog, or social media
