The sky became ominously darker, hazier, even foreboding as we drove from Los Angeles into the Coachella Valley of California along Interstate 10. The roaring fire in the mountains seemed everywhere in the sky as smoke and ash illuminated the cloud cover a reddish glow.
Outside of a total solar eclipse, I had never seen this degree of darkness all across the sky during the day – anywhere!
And yet … there was still enough light to see our way home. The sun was shining through all that darkness and casting its rays of light and life. Even a little bit of light helps you see where you are going.
So once I arrived home safely, I grabbed my Sony A6000 camera and captured some eerie, surreal views of the Coachella Valley sky.
The images remind me of how God gives us light in our darkest days of life. "God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). And when we come to know the Lord in an eternal relationship with Him, we live in the light of the Lord —
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10
So let us walk in the light of the Lord (Isaiah 2:5). His light — the light of the Son of God — always shines through in every darkness.
Are you in a darkness just now? Stay close to the Lord and watch His light bring a brightness into your heart. Your circumstance may not change, but you have changed because of His light in your life.
Be encouraged, dear friend, and look for the light of Jesus today. He always shines through in every situation.
Dear Lord, today we ask for You to shine through in our life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
