I was standing with my Sony A600 mirrorless camera in Sedona, Arizona, waiting to capture images of the thousands of hummingbirds migrating through the area. And then I saw the most beautiful butterfly fluttering its wings and soaring to a nearby flowered bush.
I immediately turned to follow it, hoping to capture an image. As I leaned in for a closer look at this beautiful butterfly, I saw the yellow and black markings — it was a two-tailed swallowtail, the Arizona State Butterfly.
I was determined to capture some images of this beautiful butterfly even though I was really there for the hummingbirds. It was not easy, because this colorful creature was always flying. It never stayed in one place for very long. I loved how it moved about with the most magnificent wings you've ever seen.
One thing is certain — this butterfly was made to fly. The wings are perfectly designed to help it rise higher and higher, rest on foliage, then immediately fly again.
I look at God's perfect design of a butterfly and realize that He perfectly designs everything to do what He has created them for in life.
Just as those butterflies are made to fly, so we, too, are made to fly, soaring above our circumstances to live out God's plan and purpose for us.
How is that possible?
I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]

Christ living in us gives us the strength to soar above our circumstances. He said, "In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]" (John 16:33 AMP).
I love thinking about this butterfly and how it is able to fly above all that is happening on the earth below. I want to remember it the next time I face an impossible challenge. I'll look to Christ to help me rise above and travel victoriously through every trial, remembering with joy that I am indeed made to fly.
So, dear friend, don't let adversity get you down. Instead, remember that Christ lives in you and can handle anything that comes your way. You are made to fly.
Lord, thank you for giving us Your strength to soar above our circumstances. In Jesus' name, Amen.
