There is something in the desert that you cannot find anywhere else. Beauty. Yes, the desert is barren and the heat can be almost intolerable at times. But there is a beauty out there when the sun begins to rise and cast its light across the sand and foliage. All is still and quiet and thoughts turn to God, our Creator.
I have found that when I walk with God out in the desert, I commune with Him, pour out my heart to Him, and cry out to Him with the greatest needs in my life. And out there in the desert, I sense He is with me in ways that I don't seem to comprehend in the busyness of normal life.
One of my favorite prayers to God in the desert is personalized from words written by David, the man after God's own heart —
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:5-8 NLT
So dear friend, if you are feeling overwhelmed with the difficulties in your life, step away, and find "a desert place" to draw near to God. You will be reassured once again that there is always hope with the Lord, that He is indeed with you, and will strengthen and help you, in His time and in His way.
Dear Lord, thank You for being with me and in control even when I feel anxious and out of control. Thank You that there is always hope with you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
