For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

Jesus claimed to be God. It is a fact of history that the Jesus was arrested at night, secretly tried, and publicly crucified on a cross. While Jesus was on the cross, His followers mourned and His disciples fled, fearing for their own lives. His death devastated those who knew and loved Him. And while He was on the cross, Jesus cried out three words, "It is finished." What was finished? Your redemption was made complete. He paid the penalty for our sin – all our sins – so that we can be forgiven and live with God forever. Three days later, something happened – something that Jesus had said would happen. Josephus, the Jewish historian, once again tells us that after three days, Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared to his disciples and more than five hundred other people. Jesus is who He claimed to be.
