One of my favorite places in the world to view God's great creation is the red rock country of Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona, Arizona. I love studying the array of colors, textures of rocks, variety of trees, and the ubiquitous chaparral. God's artistry is seen all around and I stand in awe of His creative work.
Looking at His beautiful work reminds me of His work in me, growing me into the person He has created me to be. Peter spoke of our spiritual growth when he said in 2 Peter 3:18 —
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 Peter 3:18
These words show us the areas where we need to grow the most and also how we grow. The two great areas we grow are experiencing God's grace and experiencing intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ. But those two areas also produce growth in our lives. Grace is the perfect environment to grow us into God's workmanship, displaying His mighty power and glory. And knowing Christ more intimately will make us deeper, more mature Christians. You become most like the One you know the best.
When you grow spiritually, you become like a mighty tree with roots that go so deep that no storm can shake you. You stand strong in the Lord.
So I encourage you today, dear friend, grow strong in Christ. Grow in His grace. And grow in the knowledge of your Lord. You will discover that you will stand strong even when faced with great winds in life.
Lord, today we ask that we will grow in Your grace and in the knowledge of You, our Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
