There it was hidden among the leaves — the most beautiful yellow bird! A Hooded Oriole with black over the eyes and under the beak to the throat, the crown of its head a bright yellow.
I had noticed the movement, grabbed my Nikon D810 and Nikkor 80-400mm lens, and I had been waiting impatiently for it to show itself. Finally I found it taking refuge deep among the branches of a grapefruit tree at Golden Pebble Habitat, that would be our back yard.
I desperately wanted to capture an image of this amazing bird in its natural habitat. I got my wish when I eventually discovered it hiding behind these leaves. Hiding in calm refuge.
This instantly served as a reminder to always find my own refuge in the Lord.
We need a hiding place, somewhere to run when the stress is high and everything seems to come against us.
The Bible encourages us to run to the Lord.
David ran to the Lord when he needed refuge —
For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you."
Psalm 32:7-8 NLT
When you go to the Lord, you will find protection, joy, victory, guidance, counsel, and your dearest friend who watches over you.
So the next time you need some shelter, take a lesson from this little bird, and run into the presence of your Lord.
Dear Lord, thank You for being my refuge and my hiding place. thank You for always watching over me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
