I looked out the window and saw clouds in the east. It was well before sunrise but I thought, "Maybe there is going to be something special out there today." So I decided to see if I could capture a special glow as the sun was rising.
While I was driving to my favorite sunrise location, I saw the sky begin to light up with some faint color. Within one minute of setting up for the myPhotoWalk photo shoot, the sky was suddenly filled with brilliant pinks, purples, and blue. The bright colors in the sky lasted no longer than about five minutes, then began to fade away. In that brief time, I was able to capture just a glimpse of beauty and glory that God painted for all to see.
What I saw was a treasure more valuable than any earthly possession. And it reminds me that we are the Lord's special treasure according to Malachi 3:17. "They will be my people," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies. "On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child."
I loved processing this image with a view to reflect on the sunrise's beauty once again. I used Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop, then a special Topaz Adjust filter to bring out the color and detail. I used Topaz DeNoise because of the noise in the image due to a high ISO necessary with the darkness. Then I added some of the words of Malachi 3:17 in poster–style Helvetica Neue to highlight the thought that we are God's treasure.
So, dear friend, the next time you see a beautiful sunrise, remember how beautiful and treasured you are to the Lord.
Dear Lord, thank You for making us beautiful and designing us as Your special treasure. In Jesus' name, Amen.
