Not To Worry

A Walk In Grace

Have you learned not to worry? This is a lesson that God is teaching me. Not to worry.

Somehow, I think I have the idea that if I worry then I am doing something about a situation that only God has the answer for in my life. I am learning that worrying does absolutely nothing — no–thing — to help me, and everything to hurt me.

Glenn Turner, author of Lifting the Covers, has said, "Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere."

Doesn't that quote make you smile! You know the truth of it from firsthand experience. You have worried and been anxious about something and then, in God's time, you have watched Him provide the answer in ways that had never even entered your mind.

God is never worried or wondering what He is going to do.

Paul said some words that help me in difficult times —

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:11-13 NLT

Notice that Paul "learned" how to be content and he "learned" the secret of living in every situation. Oh yes, the ability "not to worry" is something we learn. It certainly is not a natural thing to be content and at peace. It is supernatural, something that God works into our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I love this image of a butterfly. Butterflies live in freedom, flying from one place to another at will. I watched thoughtfully as this little butterfly fluttered along the Bear Mountain Trail in Sedona, Arizona. It just flew from one beautiful bush and flower to another on its daily rounds. And as it spread its wings, the beautiful patterned colors appeared. I captured dozens of images with my Nikon D810, not an easy task. You should have seen me bouncing along trying to keep up!

Oh, dear friend, let's be like this butterfly, and fly with great freedom in life. Let's live with an attitude of trust instead of worry. Why not choose trust, believe God's Word, and watch to see what God will do.

So today, no matter what you are facing, watch for God's answer in your situation. He is not worried or wondering what He is going to do. You can trust Him with all your heart.

"Dear Lord, thank You that I never need to worry and I can always trust you. In Jesus' name, Amen."
