I love photographing birds. They are so interesting, quirky, and whimsical. One early morning, I was sitting in my family room spending time with the Lord, and my eyes caught some movement in our backyard [We call it Golden Pebble Habitat]. There on our fountain was perched the most colorful yellow and orange bird. I got up to grab my camera and it immediately flew away. "Well, I missed that one," I remarked to myself.
And then, as though on command, many different species of birds flew through our yard, landing on tree branches, the ground, and the fountain. I couldn't believe it. And, of course, I went crazy, taking as many pictures as I could of all these varieties of birds.
There is so much to learn from the birds. They teach us, and if we are wise, we will stop to listen and learn.
Job learned the lesson of the birds when he said —
Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you…the life of every living thing is in His hand, and the breath of every human being…true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are His.
Job 12:7 NLT
That bird is perched on the branch, as though commanding an audience of thousands. It is not afraid or worried. And it has no promise of food for tomorrow. As Jesus said, "Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life" (Matthew 6:26-27 NLT).
If we will listen to the birds, our worrying will change to worship, our fear to faith, and our unbelief to belief.
God is sovereign and perfectly in control. He can be trusted for every single thing.
So today, dear friend, listen to the birds, and soar in life by faith in God and His Word.
Dear Lord, thank You for handling all that comes my way today and this week. I rejoice in You today and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
