A little bird caught my eye one day as I looked out my window. I couldn't help but notice it because it was hopping around on the ground looking for food. Every now and then, it would stop, look up, and cry out with a lilting chirp that birds make, sometimes for seemingly no reason at all. But in the case of this bird, it seemed like it was hungry, and it was letting everyone know about it.
I thought about the lesson we can learn from this little bird. In fact, God tells us that birds teach us things —
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
Job 12:7-10 NIV
The birds teach us not to worry, and to depend on God for everything. When they are hungry, they cry out, and then they look for food. But they keep crying out. And what we learn is that God provides. We are all in His hands, especially our life and breath, and provision for all our needs.
There is a promise in Philippians 4:19 that I rely on every day. "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
So today, let us learn from the birds to rely on God for everything. And let us all cry out to Him for whatever needs we have today.
"Dear Lord, thank You for Your promise of provision today. In Jesus' name, Amen."
